Mini Chef at the Trunk Road Roundabout in Redcar is a cafe more in the style of a well-loved food van, serving up freshly made meals that stray far from the typical greasy fast food expectations. The setup caters mostly to folks looking for a quick, satisfying bite on the go — whether it’s a hearty breakfast or a filling midday stop.

The atmosphere here is straightforward and no-fuss, with a strong emphasis on speedy service without cutting corners on quality. Locals and travelers alike appreciate how the food is prepared to order, giving you control over what goes onto your plate. The staff are known for being friendly and engaging, often creating a cheeky, lively vibe even during busy times, which makes waiting feel less like a chore and more like part of the experience.

Ideal visitors are people who want a substantial meal that travels well, like the popular Chicken Tikka Wrap with Fire Cracker Sauce, the kebab platters, or the local favourite Parmo with chips. The menu covers a range of options that satisfy cravings from classic British comfort food to spices tuned for those who enjoy a bit more heat. It’s especially well suited to early risers and morning commuters, as the service kicks off very early and runs through until early afternoon. This makes it a convenient stop for breakfast or lunch, with consistent order accuracy and good prices adding to the appeal.

Situated right by a major roundabout, Mini Chef serves a varied crowd—from workers grabbing a quick bite to families out for a casual meal stop during a drive. The ease of payment, including bank transfers, points to a business tuned into local practicalities, while the cleanliness and friendly exchanges show they care about the basics that keep customers coming back.

If you’re passing through Redcar around a mealtime and want something more than the usual fast food on the go, Mini Chef offers a dose of authenticity with a local flavor twist, all delivered with quick, approachable service.

Myself and partner were travelling back home from Middlesbrough and found this place and were certainly not disappointed. To phil (mystery shopper ), i think saying that the ladies were a bit wooden is at the very least extremely harsh. You walk up to the 4 ladies you are met by very cheeky jolly smiles. It took me a while to think what i wanted, but i wasn't rushed. I ended up getting a bacon, egg sausage, and black pudding, but then I asked if she could add mushrooms and hashbrowns, to which the manager replied that there was no bother My self and partner enjoyed crispy bacon and fried, not soggy limp mushrooms runny yolks in soft large bread buns for a reasonable price. I also spotted burgers and wraps on the menu, but that will be the next visit. I do have say this I'm gutted they don't sell spam, but for sure, I'm not going to mark them down over it. A comment was made about the being ok with the locals. i get the distinct impression that whether you are a labourer bar maid or a bank manager judge or cop you have been once you're a friend the next time. The fridge is topped up, and the van is clean. The ladies were dressed up like hotel reception staff very smartly dressed and hospitable. Keep up the good work, ladies. Ps. A bit wooden, hahaha, don't make me laugh. Not a splinter insight

The food is the best van food I've ever had. From burgers, to your favourite BSE, to your sunday roast, and xmas dinner at Christmas time. And the staff are very friendly and a good banter.

This place is open from around 3.30am onwards, the ladies are very nice and very quick, quicker than McD and much much better value, you get the correct amount for your money as well. They look smart in there blue blouses and always have a welcoming smile and Hello. Parking is easy and I driver a little HGV tanker for CSG as well. I'd like to ask people to try and pay by cash, I think it's critical to keep cash going into small businesses like these, they should have a "Cash preferred " sign, also a tips box for the girls. Thank you for looking after me and my smelly little lorry.
